HEALTH ADVOCACY

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Health Advocate?
  • A private Health Advocate is an experienced and educated professional, including registered nurses, who provide you with one-to-one support, guidance, and assistance with getting your chronic healthcare needs met and concerns heard.

  • A doctor's time with you is very limited.  An independent Health Advocate can spend more time with you and connect with your medical providers on your behalf.

What makes you different from patient advocates in a hospital or from an insurance company?

Simply Explained Health Advocacy will work only for you--the client--as your personal advocate, not for any insurance company, hospital, or other organization.  The advocate working for those places is an employee and must put their boss' best interests first, instead of yours.  As your personal advocate, putting your best interests first is what I do.

I don’t know what questions to ask my doctor.   Can you help me with that?

Yes, I can.  Based on your healthcare condition, I will assist you in developing appropriate questions to ask your providers before your medical appointments, as needed.

Can I use your services for my loved one or a relative?   What local area do you serve?

Yes. Presently, the person must be a resident of Washington State.  My local service areas are: Milton, Washington, Federal Way, WA and a few surrounding areas in the South Sound.  I can also meet virtually (online), as needed.

Are your services covered by insurance?

Unfortunately, not at this time. But Medicare may be considering it.  Advocates are paid directly by the patient or his/her caregiver for the personalized support.  Rates can differ, based on each Advocates' skills, the type of services offered, location and other factors to be considered.

How This Benefits You:

How long will I need the services for?

The length of services will be different for each person.  It depends on your particular situation, how much support you need, your goals, and the total amount of work involved to achieve them.

What are the service fees?

Each person's needs and situations are different.

  • One person may need an extra set of ears at a doctor's appointment (when a family member is not available), then explain things afterwards that may be forgotten by the client.  A few hours of time may be estimated at: $ 200. for example.

  • Another person may need complex medical language on a test converted to plain words, so he and his family members can ask further questions.  A 4-page report for example, which may take at least 24-48 hours to decode, convert and prepare the results, may be estimated at: about $100. (as an example).
